OUSD Expanded Learning Programs

Students will learn team building exercises, fundamentals of cheerleading such as cheer motion dance, beginning tumbling, chants, jumps, kicks, and voice projection. Cheerleaders have the honor & responsibility of creating a strong sense of school pride and elevating spirit within their school and community through 5 key roles: Crowd Leader, Spirit Raiser, Ambassador, Athlete and Entertainer.

We bring the ancient game of Chess to life in this educational and engaging program! This program, designed for beginners and seasoned players , offers a learning experience that combines a new and engaging lesson each session, friendly gameplay, and opportunities to build new friendships! The best part? The program culminates in an exciting tournament where students can showcase their newfound skills and compete for amazing prizes! Students will learn dance skills in traditional Chinese and Vietnamese styles such as the Dragon to perform with amazing props and costumes.

Students will have an opportunity to play games and partake in activities that promote mindfulness, self care, and helps students practice social skills. Students can join school counselor playing board games and doing crafts.

Students learn how to use the computer software Pencil 2D to create animation projects, while also exploring story and character development, animation techniques such as key frames, filler frames, onion skinning, and much more.

Use clues to solve fun puzzles and mysteries as a team.

Drum circle is designed to introduce students to the world of music at any age. It allows students to experience the euphoria and community of music. Teaches essential music fundamentals such as rhythm and tone. It also promotes healthy relationship between music and social/emotional awareness. Keyboard ensemble is a wonderful foundation class that prepares students for more serious private study. We teach core keyboard skills: hand position, note reading, chord vocabulary, posture, phythm, and theory while rehearsing a repertoire of rock, pop, and classical songs. This isn't your average piano class!

It also promotes healthy relationship between music and social/emotional awareness The Ukulele is an excellent starter instrument for every child learning music for the first time. The Ukuleles are relatively simple to learn, easy for kids to hold, inexpensive, and timeless! In this ensemble, mwe will jump into the fun stuff and learn how to play music on the ukulele. By the end of the course, students will know a few chord positions, will have learned a couple of songs, and be able to sing along.
